DIN DIN - HEMTON MUSIC

Born in 1993, Brown’s Town, St Ann. Mario Hemmings, professionally known as Din Din, immersed himself in music from a young age. He had no time to be idle, instead his aspirations were set firmly on becoming an engineer. “Music was always my first choice”, he reminisces, “I wasn’t into beat making. It wasn’t until I started working full-time with Squash ‘6ix Boss’ that I decided to take the beat making and producing more seriously”.

His inspiration was an eclectic mix of Dancehall, Hip Hop and Trap Soul, with artists such as Drake, Bryson Tiller and Vybz Kartel leading prominent within their niche. It was Vybz Kartel who was his greatest inspiration and the main reason he worked so hard in music. Of all the artists who would be on Din Din’s “hitlist” to work with, Kartel would be at the top.

In late 2015, Din Din began to make beats with a friend called Wizzy who introduced him to Squash. Both of them decided to form what would become one of the most sought-after production houses in Jamaica, ‘Hemton Music’. “It was just an idea we had to come together, we joined both of our last names to get the label name. We worked better together. When we sent out beats individually, it wasn’t received well but when we made beats together well..” history was created.

He got his first major break with the rising cult syndicate, ‘The 6ix’, which pumped unity and the promotion of all within the team as a catalyst to success. With hits from Squash ‘6ix Boss’, Chronic Law and Daddy 1 respectively; the Hemton Music brand was soon a trending name across the island and throughout the Dancehall diaspora. “The journey wasn’t smooth. I didn't know what to expect. Sometimes I felt like quitting but I stayed consistent and worked hard.”

Din Din is creating a new era of Dancehall that will bridge all niches into one global sound and be appreciated by all. His sound is unique and unexpectable and he has proven that it is a benchmark for hit-charting compositions. His future will be forged among the greats, a founder of a new sound, a young, hardworking talent; among the best to ever do it.
